Ο Luc J.C. van Loon είναι Καθηγητής Φυσιολογίας της Άσκησης και της Διατροφής στο Τμήμα Βιολογίας του Ανθρώπου του NUTRIM Institute of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism, στο Maastricht University Medical Centre+ της Ολλανδίας.
BIOGRAPHY (ENGLISH)
Luc J.C. van Loon is Professor of Physiology of Exercise and Nutrition at the Department of Human Biology, NUTRIM Institute of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism, Maastricht University Medical Centre+, The Netherlands. He heads the M3 research group and is Scientific Coordinator of the Stable Isotope Research Centre. He obtained his PhD from Maastricht University in 2001 and was appointed Professor in 2010.
His internationally recognized research focuses on skeletal muscle metabolism and the regulation of muscle adaptation by physical activity, inactivity, nutrition, and pharmacological interventions. Major themes include muscle protein synthesis, post-exercise and postprandial protein metabolism, protein quality, aging, immobilization and hospitalization, and strategies to preserve skeletal muscle mass and function in health and disease. His laboratory is particularly known for innovative stable-isotope tracer methodology in human integrative physiology.
Professor van Loon has published well over 550 peer-reviewed articles, with more than 36,700 citations and an H-index of 99 in Web of Science. Maastricht University reports that he ranked among the top 1% of highly cited scholars globally across nutrition and physiology in 2023. He is also a Visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University, holds an honorary chair at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and contributes to international scientific and professional activities in sports nutrition and exercise metabolism.
